Valence House is a former moated manor house dating to the 16th century. For many years it has been home to the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham's Local History Museum displaying a diverse collection, from Neolithic objects to 20th century ephemera. It also contains the internationally important Fanshawe collection of portraits.

Our practice was appointed to prepare design proposals for the refurbishment of the museum, incorporating new display areas and disabled access to the upper floor. The final design was successful in receiving Stage 1 Heritage Lottery Fund support.
