This modernist villa in Spaniard's End, north London was commissioned by an elderly couple who had lived for over fifty years in a large, mid-century modern house next door. The brief stipulated that their new home had to echo the original property with identical 1950's detailing.
The site is very confined, with the house arranged around a sunken rear courtyard. Large upper floor windows serve the principal living spaces, with views across Hampstead Heath. Bedrooms and private study rooms are located below with direct access to the courtyard.
